BIGGEST TAKEAWAY: IT’S OVER

— It’s finally over. The 49ers finish the preseason 2-2 by forcing five turnovers in a 23-13 win over the Chargers. Here’s a quick list of which 49ers helped and hurt their chances to make the team at Levi’s Stadium preseason game 4.

WHO HELPED CAUSE?

— C.J. Beathard wrapped up his preseason slate completing 5-of-9 passes for just 31 yards but scrambled for a 62-yd TD run in the second quarter. Beathard had all but locked up the number two QB job heading into the final game and finished the preseason 26-for-45 for 401 yards and 4 TD’s with 1 interception.

— Victor Bolden Jr. can absolutely fly. Bolden added a 92-yard punt return for a touchdown vs. L.A. to his 104-yd kickoff return for a TD vs. the Broncos earlier in the preseason. He’s got a shot to be the 5th or 6th WR if the 49ers decide to keep that many and also has shown he can help on special teams.

— Asa Jackson is a long shot to make the team and that’s a big reason he played so much tonight but the veteran from Sacramento made the most of his night by tallying two interceptions. Cornerback has been a position of weakness for the 49ers throughout the preseason. He may have helped his cause more than one might think.

WHO HURT THEIR CAUSE?

— Joe Williams fumbled in the red zone which was also an issue in training camp. He still almost certainly makes the team but is clearly behind Matt Breida and likely Raheem Mostert as well on the depth chart.

— Aaron Lynch and Quinton Dial both saw time in the second half which in and of itself signals a potential danger zone for both players being on the 53-man roster come Saturday afternoon.

— Zane Beadles was one of 29 49ers who didn’t suit up on Thursday night but the acquisition of Laken Tomlinson earlier in the day from Detroit signals that Beadles starting spot could be in jeopardy. Beadles has worked at left guard since Joshua Garnett’s injury early in training camp and would still stand to make the team but may quickly become a reserve.
