The Oakland Athletics and manager Bob Melvin have come to terms on a one-year-contract extension that will keep him in Oakland through 2019.

From the official press release: "He led the A's to three consecutive postseason appearances from 2012-14, including back-to-back American League West titles in 2012 and 2013 to become the first manager to lead the A's to consecutive division titles since Tony La Russa won three straight from 1988-90."

Melvin is the 64th manager in MLB history with 1,000 wins, winning his 500th game with the Athletics. He is a Bay Area native and has been with the A's since 2011.
