What has Peyton Manning been up to since retiring from football? A lot. Hosting Saturday Night Live, showcasing his acting chops by making guest appearances in sitcom’s like “Modern Family”, and of course adding more commercials to his repertoire that showcase his dry sense of humor. The latest endeavor to add on his resume: Peyton has been named the next host for the 25th ESPY Awards.

On a quiet sports night, the ESPY’s brings the sports world and Hollywood together in ESPN’s effort to create their own version of the Oscars. It’s usually A Hollywood star that hosts the award show, but this being the quarter century mark, Manning seemed to be the perfect fit for the role. He has become more than just an athlete; he is now a celebrity that crossed the line of only being known for his success in sports and has become recognizable to more than just the sports nuts.

Manning though will be one of the few athletes to step in as a host. Other host athletes include Lance Armstrong (2006), Lebron James co-hosted with Jimmy Kimmel in 2007, and last year WWE Superstar John Cena stepped into the ring…or rather onto the stage.

"It's an honor to be asked to host the ESPYS, and it's even more meaningful that it's the 25th year for this incredible event," says Manning, "The ESPYS have been a part of my life during my entire career. I can still remember attending my very first show back in 1998 before my rookie season in the NFL."

Certainly not a stranger to the awards, the former NFL Star has accumulated a few ESPYs of his own over the years. He has been awarded:

Best College Football Player, 1998

Best NFL Player in 2004,  2005 and 2014

Best Record-Breaking Performance ESPY Award, 2005, 2014, 2015

Best Championship Performance ESPY in 2007 for his Super Bowl MVP award in Super Bowl XLI vs. the Bears

ESPY Icon Award, 2016

The ESPYs will air July 12TH on ABC
