Over the weekend, reports surfaced that Green Bay Packers Quarterback, Aaron Rodgers and girlfriend, Hollywood actress Olivia Munn, had split up after three years.  Over their relationship, many stories surfaced about the couple, including friction between Munn and the Rodgers family that reportedly had led the quarterback to distance himself from his loved ones.

The sports and pop culture world really collided when Aaron’s brother, Jordan, starred on the hit reality show The Bachelor. It was then we discovered the apparent animosity between Olivia and Aaron’s family, an issue that reportedly weighed heavily on the quarterback’s mind and heart.

Whether or not that was the catalyst to the ultimate breakup, we probably will never fully know; however, there are some that believe any issues Rodgers had on the field with Green Bay stemmed from the drama off the field. It is amazing that when professional athletes and Hollywood stars come together they are either determined to be a power couple or a jinx.

Remember when Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson were an item? When the former Dallas quarterback hit a rough patch, fans and the media were quick to blame the star-studded relationship on Romo’s decline, many even calling for the two to break up in order to get the Cowboys back to the Super Bowl. While being surrounded by even more paparazzi, attending glitzy Hollywood affairs, and vacationing before a playoff game could prove to be a distraction, you cannot only blame it on one person in the relationship. Remember, it takes two to tango. Unless you’re dating a Kardashian, and if that’s the case RUN AWAY! That’s what Lebron James says at least!

As a sports fan though, I do understand the power of superstition and respect the opinion of those who believe in a jinx. Let’s face it though, Tony Romo moved on from Jessica and had since dated Carrie Underwood and married former Miss Missouri, Candace Crawford. No championship in his career, the only common denominator: Tony Romo. Sorry Cowboy fans. Mind you, he now has lined up a sweet gig with CBS in the booth.

There have been many successful couples that found the gray between the black and white of the entertainment world and sports. David and Victoria Beckham had been longtime favorites of the British media then moved across the pond to the delight of the American paparazzi. Tom Brady found love and success on the field while being married to Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen (now the guy just needs to catch his own touchdown!), and Dwayne Wade and Gabrielle Union are the dynamic duo that you root for, unless they are on a banana boat with Lebron and Chris Paul.

I’ll dive deeper into celebrity couples another day, but for now, I wish the best for Aaron Rodgers and Olivia Munn as they part ways. The question is, will there be a change in Aaron Rodgers performance on the field this upcoming season? I’m sure there will be a plethora of tabloids ready to jump on that story!
