Steph was just playing.

Speaking to ESPN’s Nick Friedell, Curry explained on Wednesday afternoon that his comments questioning whether we’d really ever been to the moon were just a joke.

He wasn’t joking about taking NASA up on the invite to a lunar lab though.

"One thousand percent," Curry said of accepting the invite. "One thousand percent.”

“Obviously I was joking when I was talking on the podcast. I was silently protesting how stupid it was that people actually took that quote and made it law as, 'Oh my God, he's a fake moon landing truther,' whatever you want to call it, yada, yada, yada. So I was silently protesting that part about it, how the story took a life of its own.”

For context, let’s run back the story, as paraphrased from our initial post. Here’s how it went down…

Steph was on the “Winging It” podcast with Vince Carter, Kent Bazemore and Andre Iguodala. And exchange in question:

Curry: We ever to the moon?

Multiple responders: Nope.

Curry: They’re gonna come get us. I don’t think so, either.

Right before Curry made his remarks, Iguodala was making jokes about memes questioning how scientists know what dinosaurs sound like.
