With the San Francisco Giants set to retire Barry Bonds’ No. 25 on Saturday, Shawn Estes dropped by “The Damon Bruce Show” to share his view on the mercurial slugger.

Estes said his memories of Bonds are mostly fond — because he had a front-row seat to greatness. Then he answered the question he’s most frequently asked: what was it like to play alongside Barry?

The answer was telling...

“If I had to rank him up there as a top teammate, as far as, ‘Yeah, let’s go hang out and grab dinner together or let’s joke around in the clubhouse and have fun…’”

“He probably wouldn’t be at the top of my list,” Estes admitted. “But I played with a lot of guys that were good — over the course of my career — for different teams, and those guys weren’t always the best clubhouse guys.

“But, heck, they went out and produced on the field and that’s all we wanted him to do. Like, we have other guys that are clubhouse guys. Some guys can’t do both.

“The only guy, really, that I played with in my career that could go out and dominate on the field, and then also keep a clubhouse loose and really pay attention to their teammates was Luis Gonzalez and that was it.”
