Giants hold onto Bumgarner and Smith, but make flurry of deals
Club ships out Pomeranz, Melancon and Dyson on deadline day

Madison Bumgarner and Will Smith, the Giants’ foremost trade chips, survived deadline day. A whole bunch of other pitchers, including Drew Pomeranz, Mark Melancon and Sam Dyson, did not.

President of baseball ops Farhan Zaidi addressed the decision to hold onto Bumgarner, the October legend.

The Giants filled the void on the pitching staff by summoning RHP Dereck Rodriguez, RHP Jandel Gustave and LHP Andrew Suarez from Triple-A Sacramento.
