Tom Pelissero of NFL Network/NFL.com had the scoop earlier in the day, reporting that Sherman is dealing with a Grade 2 strain.

The 49ers host the Falcons on Sunday in Santa Clara, meet up against the Rams at Levi's on Saturday, Dec. 21 and close out the regular season on Dec. 29 in Seattle.

Meanwhile, Shanahan also said that defensive end Dee Ford (hamstring) will miss a few weeks and that center Weston Richburg (torn patellar tendon) is out for the year.
