Jerry Rice — the GOAT, Hall of Famer and three-time Super Bowl champ — has officially joined the team at 95.7 The Game as a contributor.

Rice dropped by “Mornings W/ Joe, Lo & Dibs” on Thursday morning to talk all things Bay Area football and behind. Asked about the 49ers’ signing of Richard Sherman, No. 80 dropped some vintage trash talk.

“He could never check me,” Rice said. “I know that. But he could never check me. That’s one thing, but he’s a great player. He’s a great addition to the 49ers.”

Rice expects big things from the new Niner cornerback, who’s returning from a ruptured Achilles in November.

“I think Richard is going to play with a chip on his shoulder because what happened to him in Seattle,” Rice told Joe Fortenbaugh and Lorenzo Neal on 95.7 The Game.

“You’ve got to think about it like this, this guy was the man in Seattle. Then all of a sudden he got forced out of Seattle and now he’s with the San Francisco.”

“So, yeah, you got the knowledge but I think he’s still got the skills to go out there and compete and he’s hungry. So, he’s going to make that secondary so much better and also going to bring a lot of experience to those younger guys.”

Rice also offered some praise for Jimmy Garoppolo, the face of the franchise.

“I think the most important thing was to get a quarterback,” Rice said. “You start building around that guy and Jimmy G is that guy. There’s a lot of question marks with the Niners right now, but I believe that position right there was the most significant one.”
