The Giants, largely quiet amid the opening months of Farhan Zaidi’s reign, have been linked to a three-time All-Star second baseman and expressed an interest in jettisoning a longtime Giant.

In addition to his defensive wizardry — LeMahieu has also thrice been named the Wilson Defensive Player of the Year — the 30-year-old is a two-time All-Star.

LeMahieu would offer a clear upgrade over Panik (4 HR, .639 OPS in 2018), but would be a peculiar add for a team that clearly recognizes a rebuild — not a quick reboot — is the most cogent plan.

That $585K figure relates to cash spent on new players. Earlier in the offseason, the Giants and Panik avoided arbitration, striking a one-year, $3.8 million pact.
