The 49ers could begin the 2020 season in China, according to a report from Matt Barrows of The Athletic.

Per Barrows, this week NFL owners are set to discuss the idea of playing games in either Beijing or Shanghai:

“As it stands now, according to team officials, the loose plan would be for the game to be played at the start of the 2020 season, perhaps to kick off the season in the same fashion as the A’s and Mariners recent Major League Baseball season-opening series in Tokyo.”

With the Rams, the Niners' reported opponent, set to debut a new stadium at the outset of the 2020 season, San Francisco would be in line to forfeit a home date. Team officials have reportedly already been to Beijing and Shanghai to scout out facilities.
