NAPA — The Oakland Raiders returned to the practice field for Day 6 of training camp  in Napa after their first off day of 2017.

"The Greg Papa Show" with Bonta Hill was live from Napa. Warriors assistant coach Mike Brown, Sebastian Janikowski, Sean Smith and Cordarrelle Patterson joined The Greg Papa show, their interviews are available on

Coach Del Rio was happy his team bounced back after a “sloppy” day five of practice, Del Rio said. “They were much better today, more focused and zeroed in,” said Del Rio. “That's how we need to play.”

Practice went a little longer compared to the past few days, but that might be a good thing after a day off. There was more intensity in practice today, better competition and you even could hear some loud pops of hard hits from the practice field, which is rare early on in training camp.

Some notes from camp:

Three of the Raiders main contributors returned to practice today — Amari Cooper, Bruce Irvin and Mario Edwards Jr.

Cooper looked great on the field with little restriction. He caught a pass down the sidelines in 7-on-7 for a deep touchdown. Then in 11-on-11 Cooper caught several balls, one where he created separation by excelling past his defender on a deep cross.

Irvin ran with the first unit in all scrimmages and even participated in one-on-one drills with the offensive line.  Edwards Jr. suited up with the team, and told the media after practice, “I’m back, I’m ready to play.”

Coach Del Rio said: “It was great to see Bruce and Mario out there.”

For an offense hyped up as much as the Raiders, the defense stole the show today. From the starters to guys grinding to make the team, everyone was making plays.

There were several deflections and even some turnovers in today's practice forced by the defense.

One of the more eye popping plays of the day was when Carr threw a fade into the corner and on a contested ball, corner Antonio Hamilton came down with the pass for a red zone interception. Hamilton was then bombarded with defensive teammates celebrating in the endzone.

Coach Del Rio was happy with the competition between his offense and defense early on in camp.

EJ Manuel looked good again today in camp. From the naked eye it seems like Manuel is currently outplaying Connor Cook for the backup quarterback position.

The team will settle on a backup at some point, but “There’s nothing to really report on now,” said Del Rio. “It's been a really good competition.”

One of the issues in today's camp seemed to be drops, from Marshawn Lynch to K.J. Brent the ball was on the ground several times throughout today’s practice.

Del Rio said he's excited by what he’s seen from the tight ends. “I think Jared Cook opens up a lot of possibilities and Clive being in better shape and healthier than he has been helps,” said Del Rio. “We now have a weapon at tight end.”

Clive Walford will be a guest on “The Greg Papa Show” with Bonta Hill tomorrow along with quarterback Derek Carr and rookie linebacker Marquel Lee.
