Report: Sean Smith headed to jail following release from Raiders

Veteran cornerback to be sentenced for 1 year, plus 3 years of probabtion

The Oakland Raiders cut cornerback Sean Smith on Monday morning and his next stop will be jail, according to Nathan Fenno of the Los Angeles Times.

On Tuesday, Smith will plead guilty to a felony count of assault with great bodily injury stemming from an incident that occurred last July. Smith will be sentenced to a year in prison and three years of probation per his plea deal. The former Raider faced up to seven years if he were convicted of all charges against him. 

Smith played 14 games for the Raiders last season, recording a pair of interceptions.
