Obi Melifonwu’s ill-fated tenure as a Raider is officially over.

The club announced on Thursday afternoon that the safety has been waived/injured.

Melifonwu’s time in Oakland was brief and injury plagued, amounting to a major swing and a miss for GM Reggie McKenzie.

The No. 56 overall pick in the 2017 draft was on the field for just five games during his rookie season, starting one. He spent 10 months stranded on the Reserve/Injured List due to both knee and hip injuries.

He won’t play a single regular season under Round II of the Jon Gruden regime.

This tweet from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport provides a stinging postscript to McKenzie’s Melifonwu whiff.
