The Oakland A's have issued a statement following a string of controversial tweets from former player turned NBC Sports California analyst Jose Canseco.

Canseco has had a history of saying outlandish and ridiculous thing son social media, but his recent tweets regarding sexual assault have cost him his broadcasting job.

The tweets follow a wave of sexual assault allegations against numerous high-profile male figures across the country. Canseco joined NBC Sports California in March, appearing on Oakland A's pre and post game coverage. The broadcasting network announced that he will no longer appear on their television station as part of the Oakland Athletics coverage.

The A's also issued a statement and made note that Canseco doesn't work for the team.

Following the backlash, Canseco has tried to downplay it all as a "joke." In a text to the San Francisco Chronicle he said "If people can't take a joke, that's ridiculous. What I'm saying really has no meaning. Those tweets don't even make any sense, they're a bunch of riddles."
