After the Oakland A's swept aside the Chicago White Sox over the weekend, manager Bob Melvin joined “Mornings W/ Joe, Lo & Dibs” to discuss the club's youth movement.

“This is a little different team now too,” Melvin explained. “This is kind of starting to get fun now with some of these younger guys that have been in our system and have been fighting to get to the big leagues and now they're finally here.

On Saturday, Franklin Barreto, Matt Olson and Jaycob Brugman all hit their first career home run, while Daniel Gossett collected his first big league win.

“It's a different vibe here for us as coaches, too, coaching some guys that have been in our system and really want to be Oakland A's and are here to just try to contribute for the organization and the team” Melvin said.

The manager also offered an update on shortstop Marcus Semien, who's working his way back from a broken bone in his wrist with the High-A Stockton Ports.

“He's making good strides,” Melvin said. “It's still going to probably be a minimum of 30, 35, 40 at bats before he comes back to us.”
