Longoria trade gives Giants largest payroll in baseball

Giants sent Arroyo, Span and pair of minor leaguers to Tampa Bay

The San Francisco Giants have a new third baseman, acquiring three-time All-Star Evan Longoria from Tampa Bay in exchange for Denard Span, Christian Arroyo and minor league pitchers Stephen Woods and Matt Krook.

Longoria was the American League's Gold Glover at third, but also posted just a .737 OPS — his second-worst output in 10 big league seasons.
