On Sunday night, the Los Angeles Lakers snatched JaVale McGee away from the reigning champ Warriors at the veteran's minimum. It seemed a peculiar move for the Warriors to let the Oracle cult hero bolt for such a small cost  — unless the team had bigger plans in mind for McGee's spot.

The Dubs sure did.

DeMarcus "Boogie" Cousins is the fifth all-star in the Golden State starting five, news that rocked the basketball universe in the form of a Shams Charania tweet. Adrian Wojnarowski offered up the equally outrageous financial details: Cousins is making the mid-level exception, $5.3 million.

Stephen Curry took to Twitter to perfectly summarize the mood.

His manager foreshadowed the surprise in epic fashion.

The Warriors starting five is absurd:

*Klay Thompson

*Kevin Durant

*Draymond Green

There are complications. When luxury-tax penalties are factored in, the total cost of the mid-level exception is about $21.6 million. Cousins, recovering from a torn left Achillies, is in the midst of a lenghty rehab that could keep him out until December or January.

Those are concerns for another day. For now, it's time acknowledge that the Warriors, as ever, are light-years ahead.
