The email, titled “A Letter from Larry Baer,” hit the inbox at 12:51 pm on Tuesday afternoon. Baer, the San Francisco Giants CEO, was delivering his typical end-of-season state of the union.

He had a lot to say. 1,004 words to be exact.

Baer detailed the search for a new baseball ops boss.

“To that end, as you probably read last week, we have begun the search for a chief baseball officer who will have full authority over all baseball operations. This person will be a driving force in creating our blueprint for the future. Brian Sabean, the architect of the Giants' three World Series Championships and the most experienced and successful executive in Major League Baseball, will play a key advisory role in guiding the transition.”

He wrote about the youngsters: Dereck Rodriguez, Andy Suarez, Chris Stratton, Steven Duggar, Aramis Garcia, Alen Hanson, Reyes Moronta, Joey Bart, Heliot Ramos and Shaun Anderson.

But he mentioned just one vet, Hunter Pence, whom he both quoted and praised.

“What a singular gift Hunter has been these last seven seasons,” Baer gushed. "What a singular gift Hunter has been these last seven seasons. We thank him not only for the impact he had during our championship years, but also for his impact every season on every one of his teammates, especially the youngsters he took under his wing to encourage and counsel."

Not a mention of Buster Posey, Madison Bumgarner, Brandon Crawford or Brandon Belt. Oh, or Bruce Bochy.

Just an oversight or a harbinger of trades and personnel moves to come? Who knows for now. Stay tuned.
