Gruden reportedly can’t get a text back — and it makes sense

Before anyone had woken up on Raider report day, ESPN’s Adam Schefter dropped the following silver and black bomb.

Or, as Schefter put it, the “interesting fact of the day.”

To clarify, Gruden has made an attempt to reach out to the defensive centerpiece, at least to the the best of Schefter’s knowledge.

It’s an ominous introductory note for a Raider club efforting to rebound from a trainwreck of a season that was. It also doesn’t bode well for Gruden, returning from his extended hiatus in the Monday Night Football booth, potentially disconnected from today’s millennial stars.

Mack is absent from Napa Valley because he wants to get paid.

To this point, Mack, a three-time Pro Bowler, two-time All-Pro and 2016 DPOY, has not been properly compensated. Per Spotrac, Mack made $18.7 million on his four-year rookie pact. He’s slated to make $13.8 million this season on his fifth-year option.

He’s an elite talent in a sport where guys break their backs and risk debilitating brain trauma. His new boss, who, reportedly, can’t get a text back, returned to the Raiders — after years of yammering away about Spider 2 Y banana — for a cool $100 million guarantee.

In that respect, it makes sense why Khalil might just leave Jon on “Read.”
