Joe Lacob, owner of the back-to-back champs Warriors, has weighed in on the Kevin Durant, Draymond Green drama, insisting his team isn’t picking one Dub over the other.

Lacob addressed the topic with Al Saracevic of the San Francisco Chronicle.

“I’ve read and heard all the things people are talking about,” Lacob said. That we’re choosing one person over another. We’re not choosing anybody over anybody.”

The inference that Lacob refers to is that the Warriors are backing Durant, over Green, in the dispute that dates back to last Monday night at Staples Center and has spilled into a flood of headlines since.

“Draymond Green is Golden State Warriors down to the socks.” --

Lacob swept aside suggestion that, by definition, the team is picking sides by suspending one of the parties involved, and doing nothing to the other. Green is reportedly appealing his one-game ban, which is set to cost him a check of about $120,000.

“It never even occurred to us,” Lacob said. “That’s not the point. The point is, whether it would be any employee, they’d have to act certain ways to be our employee. Draymond knows that he went beyond — won’t say what he did, or what he said, or anything like that — he went beyond what we felt appropriate, so it didn’t matter who it was.”

Factoring in the loss to the Clippers, the Warriors are 1-4 since the eruption of drama between Durant and Draymond. Lacob said he’s still cool with the latter.

“And he understands that, by the way,” Lacob said. “I’ve been texting with him, and he totally gets it. I do have a great relationship with him, and I still do.”
