Greg Papa spoke at length regarding his new job as voice of the San Francisco 49ers on Wednesday afternoon on 95.7 The Game.

Papa opened up “The Greg Papa Show” with Bonta Hill by paying his respects to his predecessor, Ted Robinson, and detailing the path that led him to his latest post. Later during the opening hour, Papa also discussed how he plans to balance his various broadcasting roles.

“I am overwhelmed. I am honored. I am humbled to accept this job,” Papa said on 95.7 The Game. “The 49ers really did not allow me to become a free agent. They reached out to me immediately after the Raiders news became public in July…”

Papa spent the 2018 season as the club’s pre and postgame host on the TV broadcast and was extended an offer to take over as voice of the 49ers late in the year.

“I want one thing to be made very clear,” Papa continued. “I (in) no way solicited this job at any time in my life. I never thought about getting this job. My mindset was to do the Raiders as long as the Raiders would allow me. And, obviously, we’ve discussed what happened at the end…”

“I never angled for (the job) going back to last May. It was never on my radar. I speak the truth. And speaking the truth is what cost me the Raider job. I did not solicit this job but they came at me and it was quite humbling when they did make the offer they made and I met all their hierarchy.”

Papa said he’s thrilled to be back calling NFL games, even if he’s previously been associated with the other Bay Area football team.

“I hope the 49ers fans out there, they understand how overjoyed, humbled (and) honored I am to accept this position and there was no reason for me not to.”

“My mindset was to finish the football season this year and see what job I could get in the NFL next year and the 49ers never allowed that to happen. They never allowed me to reach free agency. They made it clear they wanted me to be a part of their future and I hope to do 49ers games as long as I did Raiders games or even longer.”
