The A’s get a lot of heat.

For their payroll.

For their attendance.

Some of it is earned. Some of it isn’t.

But today, it’s time to give Billy Beane, the baseball ops czar/Moneyball man, some bleeping credit.

His upstart A’s, a year ahead of schedule, are officially going for it. Jeruys Familia is an A.

And they aren't afraid to pay for Familia, who'd saved 17 games for the Mets. The prospects are no joke. Toffey was a fourth-round pick in 2017. Wahl had 65 strikeouts in 39.2 Triple-A innings.

The A's also outbid some heavy hitters.

It’s a heady play by Beane and top lieutenant David Forst, the club GM. A team that bashes home runs and is getting by with a rotation of youngsters, misfits and castoffs, just took its power couple in the pen — Blake Treinen and Lou Trivino — and turned it into a triumvirate.

In recent weeks, Beane and Forst have repeated signaled that far from selling, they’d be willing to bolster Bob Melvin’s bunch. They weren’t blustering.

Now the summer gets fun.
