There are a plethora of movies coming out this holiday movie season, and one the sports world is keeping an eye on is "I, Tonya," the biopic revolving around disgraced figure skater, Tonya Harding, played by Margot Robbie.

Harding received a lifetime ban from the US Figure Skating Association after pleading guilty to hindering the prosecution following the attack on fellow figure skater, Nancy Kerrigan.

The film looks at Tonya’s childhood and shows how an abusive relationship with mother LaVona (Allison Janney) shaped the troubled woman. The dark comedy features two incredibly talented actresses in Robbie and Janney, who look to have put together a performance not only worthy of a gold medal but also Oscar gold.

The original screenplay is written by Steven Rogers, the scribe behind such romantic comedies as "Hope Floats," "Kate & Leopold" and "Love the Coopers." Rogers, looking for a career re-invention in Hollywood, said he was compelled to write the script and tell Harding’s story after watching the ESPN documentary “The Price of Gold.”

The movie is directed by Australian director, Craig Gillespie, who is known for his work in The Finest Hours, Lars and the Real Girl, and Disney’s Million Dollar Arm.

"I, Tonya" will be released nationwide on December 8th in New York and LA, with a platform rollout that will continue into January.  The Film Buff will give you a full review of the movie upon its release.
