NFL Network analyst David Carr joined “The Damon Bruce Show” on Thursday afternoon for his customary weekly conversation and offered up plenty of insights.

The elder Carr told Damon that Jared Cook, star of the Raiders first win of 2018, is Derek Carr’s go-to- target.

“Honestly, when you talk to Derek, he favors Jared Cook over all the receivers,” Carr said on 95.7 The Game. “I mean, he says, ‘I trust Jared more than anybody.’ Because he’s constantly made plays for him since he showed up.”

After hauling in 110 yards and a pair of TDs against the Browns in the overtime win, Cook leads the club in catches (26) and yards (370) in 2018.

“He’s a big physical guy. You see Jared, he’s a big, long target,” Cook continued. “He did throw the one interception to Jared down the middle of the field, but he just gave him a chance. It hit his hands. He had a chance at it. It wasn’t a perfect throw but he’s going to trust that guy.”

“You saw in clutch situations they had to make a play in the fourth quarter and overtime, that’s where he was going with the football. So, they like that matchup. Jon (Gruden) likes that matchup. From an offensive-play caller standpoint, they’re going to continue to utilize it.”

Carr insisted that he wasn’t disclosing any state secrets, but rather that all QBs love throwing to the big dudes..

“We already know, tight end’s are quarterback’s best friends," Carr said. "So, I mean, you ask Tony Romo — even when he had Dez Bryant — who his favorite target was, he’s going to say Jason Witten.”

“That’s no secret. It’s kind of interesting because they always have, with tight ends, they just have better matchups. And if you can get a big, physical guy that can run and get in and out of breaks, they’re just going to be better than linebackers and safeties that are covering them.”
