With the Houston Astros in town to take on the Oakland Athletics, the club's general manager Jeff Luhnow joined “Mornings W/ Joe, Lo & Dibs” on 95.7 The Game on Wednesday.

The AL West frontrunners have already been linked to Oakland ace Sonny Gray, and Luhnow said he'd have no problem making a trade within the division.

“I think that's overblown to honest with you,” Luhnow said when asked if it's challenging to execute such a move. “We've made several trades with Billy Beane and the Oakland A's over the course of the last few years and I don't think we're hesitant to do that.”

“The reality is that you're not just competing with your division.” Luhnow added. “The way the wild card is setup, you're competing with everybody in your league. And so, to exclude yourself from being about to do something with those teams I think would be foolish.”

For baseball's winningest-team, finding a front-of-the-rotation type — a la Gray — is at the top of the to-do list.

“We're probably looking for a starting pitcher that can help us in a five or seven-game playoff series,” Luhnow explained. “That's probably our No. 1 need. Now, those guys are hard to find. They're expensive to trade for and you have to give up a lot and you really have to weigh whether it's worth it, but that would be probably our No. 1 area that we're going to investigate.”
