For the first time in a long time, the Oakland A’s are contenders.

The front office is acting accordingly.

Baseball ops boss Billy Beane and GM David Forst scooped up All-Star closer Jeurys Familia over the weekend and they’re looking for more reinforcements.

Forst said as much during his appearance on “The Damon Bruce Show” on Monday afternoon.

“There’s still room to find an upgrade on this club — hopefully in the next eight days."

“I never know for sure if we’re going to be able to do something but, again, any little upgrade that makes up a game or two somewhere along the way could be critical.”

The A’s have shuffled through 12 different starting pitchers, so the rotation would seem to be a logical place to add. Forst hedged when asked if that’s what manager Bob Melvin’s been asking about.

“Bob’s talking to us about everything,” Forst said with a laugh.

Forst also pointed out that, on this market, starters are hard to come by. Perhaps it’s yet another power arm out of the bullpen that could be added by the end of the month.
